I'm not photogenic and I've never liked having my photo taken. It's as uncomfortable a place for me to be as being the person to whom 'Happy Birthday' is sung... and that used to make me cry with anxiety. While I wasn't on the verge of tears when arriving at Al's studio, I was considerably nervous. Thankfully, this was balanced fairly nicely with a good dose of excitement; Al and I had discussed several scenarios for my shoot, and we both agreed some mess was in order. I was looking forward to it... I was greeted by a warm room and an even warmer personality. Coffee was offered (and accepted) and we contemplated costuming, while examining art supplies and casually chatting. I possibly drew this out longer than needed, and if I did, Al was extremely patient and tolerant of me.
So, nerves settled, I went and sat and proceeded to start writing on my legs. I had a beautiful selection: bright paints and markers, these painty-marker-things where paint comes out LIKE a marker (aw maw gawd, it's magix!), a big, black Sharpie... and a wall of paper when I got bored with my leggies. Yum. So I messed around like a little kid, scrawling incoherently all over my un-tattooed leg. And writing lines has never been so much fun. I'd kinda like to scrawl all over every square inch of myself someday... Anyways, so as I frigged around, Al snapped away.

This was my first enjoyable experience being photographed by a professional. Not only I am happy with the results (damn, my legs look good...) but I am rapt by the entire experience. If it's not already a given for full credit to be attributed to a photographer than let me be plain: Al is entirely responsible for these wonderful shots. He put me at ease, gave me stuff to play with and quietly and gently went about his business. He rarely asked anything of me (which was good cos if he did I'd likely have been awkward and inelegant... :P ). When he did make a suggestion, it was just that: 'What do you think about using the chair?' 'Why don't you swivel the other way?' And he was awesome enough to paint my toenails (post-shoot) when I didn't get around to nice-ing them up myself...
I couldn't have wished for a kinder person to shoot me.
